Eye training by watching video

BinoQuest is an app where you train your eyes by watching a video. Instead of a static picture, or a pencil someone moves in front of you, a small window with a video of your own choosing travels across the screen. The eyes follow it naturally, so the exercise stays interesting even for a child.

It builds on the orthoptic convergence and fusion exercises, the ones where the eyes track an approaching or moving target. The only difference is what that target is.

Who it is for

Adults and children who want to work on eye mobility, tracking a target, and holding a single image. Most often that means:

  • people whose strabismus depends on the direction of gaze, who want to widen the range in which they hold a single image. That has a page of its own on training with strabismus.
  • people referred by an orthoptist or eye doctor who need to practise at home between visits
  • anyone who wants to exercise their eyes after long screen work, where the gaze never leaves one distance all day

The app is not a substitute for orthoptic or medical care. It is a targeted home supplement, and your eye doctor or orthoptist decides whether the training and the directions suit you. There are no universal exercises that fit everyone.

What is in the app

Ready-made exercises: lying figure-8, clock face, horizontal and vertical pendulum, diagonal, spiral, reading lines, fixation jumps, and billiards. You assemble them into a series in your own order and length.

Custom paths: draw exactly the trajectory you want to train and the video will travel along it. Useful when you need to target specific directions of gaze.

Controlled movement: you can drive the video's position yourself, with the arrow keys or the mouse, and regulate the intensity of the exercise as you go.

Videos from anywhere: your own files from your computer, as well as YouTube.

Camera measurement

The app includes an experimental feature still in development, measuring eye misalignment with the camera, and the biofeedback built on top of it. It is not reliable yet and I keep tuning it. Everything runs right in your browser. Neither the camera image nor the measured data ever leaves your computer.
