Watch videos, train eyes

The app is designed for adults and children whose strabismus depends on the direction of gaze. In some directions their eyes are aligned, while in others one eye starts to drift and the image begins to double. Clinically this is most often incomitant strabismus, decompensating heterophoria, or convergence insufficiency — deviations in which binocular (two-eyed) vision is preserved and the patient is able to compensate for the deviation by their own effort, at least in some direction of gaze.

The goal of the exercise is to strengthen control over eye alignment and to widen the range of gaze in which the patient holds a single image, without strabismus.

I built this app for my son Jonas. Instead of watching boring pictures and objects on the screen, He can now watch videos in small moving rectangles. You can play video files from your own computer as well as YouTube.

The therapist or the patient builds an individual path of movement to address precisely the problematic gaze directions.  The patient trains holding single vision in the zone where it usually breaks down (i.e. where the deviation usually starts). A single intensive exercise in this zone should be short, and repeated a few times a day. The patient can move the video's position on the screen themselves and thus regulate the intensity of the exercise.

Besides custom training paths, the app contains the most common object-tracking patterns: clock face, horizontal and vertical pendulum, diagonal, line reading, spiral, random targets, and more. You can build a custom session with your own lengths and order of exercises.

The app does not replace orthoptic or medical care. It serves as a targeted home complement to it, and your eye doctor or orthoptist should be consulted.
